Grades can sometimes be confusing, but they’re really just a way to measure how well you’re doing in your classes. Let’s break it down in simple terms.

Think of grades like a score in a video game. They show how much you’ve learned and how well you’ve done on your assignments and tests. Just like in games, sometimes you do great, and sometimes you might need to try again.

Most schools use letter grades (A, B, C, D, F) or percentages (like 85% or 92%). An A is awesome, B is good, C is average, D means you barely passed, and F means you didn’t pass.

Percentage grades are simple – they show what part of the total points you earned. If you got 45 out of 50 points on a test, your percentage is 90% (which is an A-). That’s pretty good!

Our percentage calculator makes this easy. Just put in how many points you got and how many were possible, and it tells you your percentage.

Sometimes, not all assignments count the same. A big test might be worth more of your grade than a small homework assignment. This is called “weighting.”

For example, if tests are worth 50% of your grade, homework 30%, and projects 20%, doing well on tests is extra important because they count more.

Quick Tip: Always find out how your teacher weights grades at the beginning of the semester. This helps you know where to focus your effort!

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It’s like your overall grade across all classes. Each letter grade has a number value (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0).

Your GPA is the average of these values across all your classes. So if you get all A’s, you’ll have a 4.0 GPA. If you get a mix of A’s and B’s, your GPA will be between 3.0 and 4.0.

Final exams can seem scary, but our calculator can help you figure out exactly what you need to score to get the grade you want in the class.

If you know your current grade and how much the final exam is worth, you can see what score you need. Sometimes you might discover you need less than you thought!
